View original imageThe partial amendment to the "Act on the Promotion of Movies and Video Works," which introduces a self-rating classification system for online video content, was approved at the full meeting of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee on the morning of the 25th. This provides a legal basis for online video content to receive rating classifications independently within the industry without going through the Video Rating Board. Once passed, operators will be able to distribute online video content at their desired timing.
The process of preparing the amendment was not smooth. The key issue was whether to implement a 'designation system' or a 'notification system' for operators. After discussions, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee subcommittee decided to implement the designation system for three years and evaluate the system's stabilization and side effects. The subcommittee also specified in the attached opinion that further consideration of deregulation through a notification system would be reviewed. The bill will be processed at the plenary session on the 30th.
