[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 24th, President Yoon Suk-yeol stated regarding Korea-China relations, "Let us seek a new direction for cooperation over the next 30 years based on mutual respect and the spirit of reciprocity between the two countries," adding, "I hope that the relationship will develop qualitatively beyond mere quantitative growth."
President Yoon Suk-yeol and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory letters to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and China. On the same day, through the foreign ministers of both countries at simultaneous events held in Seoul and Beijing, they publicly announced this message.
President Yoon evaluated the Korea-China relationship, which has made remarkable progress in various fields over the 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. Furthermore, as discussed during a phone call with President Xi on March 25, when Yoon was president-elect, he emphasized future cooperation based on mutual respect and the spirit of reciprocity.
To this end, President Yoon mentioned, "I hope to activate high-level exchanges and achieve tangible results in practical cooperation areas such as economic security including supply chains, environment, and climate change that the people can feel together."
He also stated, "I hope for China's constructive role in resolving the North Korean nuclear issue," and emphasized, "I look forward to meeting President Xi face-to-face to discuss the development of Korea-China relations over the next 30 years."
President Yoon further said, "I pray that the commemorative events held today to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations will further promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, strengthen friendship among the people, and I look forward to meeting the President in person to discuss the development of Korea-China relations for the next 30 years."
President Xi Jinping evaluated, "Korea and China, as neighboring countries that have maintained friendly exchanges over a long period, have developed their relationship comprehensively over the 30 years since establishing diplomatic ties by adhering to openness and inclusiveness through mutually beneficial cooperation."
