Chuseok Parcel Surge... Seoul City Conducts Safety and Environment Inspections of 'Logistics Facilities'
Confirming quarantine and worker safety measures such as mask wearing and air conditioning installation... On-site guidance and instructions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will conduct safety inspections at logistics facilities ahead of the Chuseok holiday. This inspection is being carried out to prevent safety accidents such as fires and quarantine issues, as the volume of goods is expected to surge during the holiday peak season.
On the 25th, Seoul announced that it will inspect 13 registered logistics warehouses with 100 or more workers and relatively high environmental density. The inspection period will be from the 26th until before Chuseok on September 8.
The main inspection items include △quarantine system management △worker safety management, focusing on protecting logistics management and worker safety. In particular, with the recent spread of COVID-19, the inspection will cover quarantine compliance such as whether workers wear masks, on-site ventilation, and disinfection. Since the workload of workers increases due to the high volume of goods during the holiday period, the inspection will also check on-site safety management such as securing rest time during the hot season, installation of cooling equipment, provision of heat-related illness supplies, and rest areas.
Seoul plans to immediately address minor issues found during the inspection by providing on-site guidance followed by corrective actions. For improper mask-wearing, a first warning will be issued, and if non-compliance continues, fines will be imposed. For companies lacking in heat illness prevention management, on-site guidance will be provided and managed accordingly.
Furthermore, to thoroughly manage fire-causing factors and prevent accidents, all warehouses except those inspected this time will be required to submit a fire safety management plan. From September, companies operating logistics warehouses or registered companies must prepare a ‘Fire Safety Management Plan’ and submit it to the relevant local government. They must faithfully implement the planned measures for fire prevention and response.
