Collecting and Exhibiting Diverse Photos Reflecting History and Culture, Offering Memories and Empathy to Citizens
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City will hold the ‘100 Years of Jungang-dong Record Photo Exhibition’ organized by the Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center from the 24th to the 25th at the Buk-gu Office Urban Forest Park.
According to the city, under the slogan “The History of Jungang-dong is the History of Pohang,” on the 3rd floor of Buk-gu Office and the Culture and Arts Factory, as part of the Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, they are promoting the establishment of the ‘Pohang City Buk-gu Jungang-dong Digital Archive Hall (tentative name),’ which provides citizens with photographic materials and other resources online to restore the depopulated old downtown, boost the pride of Jungang-dong residents, and revitalize tourism.
This photo exhibition is significant in that local residents have united to collect various photographic materials promoting the history and culture of the entire Pohang City and the Jungang-dong area, which will be used to build the ‘Pohang City Buk-gu Jungang-dong Digital Archive Hall.’
The ‘Jungang-dong Record Photo Exhibition’ will be held to commemorate the opening of the new Buk-gu Office building and, prior to the operation of the future digital archive hall, will be publicly previewed through an analog photo exhibition, providing citizens with an opportunity to stroll through the Urban Forest Park and learn in detail about the history of Pohang City and Jungang-dong.
The exhibition features 68 photographs covering 100 years of history from the early 1900s to before 2000 of the Jungang-dong area in Pohang City. Since Jungang-dong has served as an administrative center and downtown area, visitors can see various old Pohang institutions, cultural spaces, and the daily lives of Jungang-dong residents.
