Early Slaughterhouse Operations and Holiday Slaughtering... Stable Supply of Livestock Products
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory of Gyeongbuk Province will operate slaughterhouses on holidays to ensure a smooth supply of livestock products ahead of Chuseok, the largest traditional Korean holiday.
They are strengthening microbial and antibiotic residue inspections to fully commit to supplying safe livestock products.
In preparation for the surge in meat consumption, the province has advanced the opening time of slaughterhouses by one hour to 7 a.m. from August 15 to September 2, a period of three weeks.
Additionally, slaughtering will be conducted on holidays (August 27?28, September 3?4) to ensure a smooth supply of livestock products.
In the first half of this year, an average of 460 cattle and 5,828 pigs were slaughtered daily at slaughterhouses in the province.
By September 8, the peak season for meat consumption, the daily slaughter volume is expected to increase to an average of 575 cattle and 5,944 pigs.

Accordingly, the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory plans to supply safe and hygienic meat by conducting ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections on livestock for shipment, as well as microbial tests and antibiotic residue inspections using rapid test equipment (Smart kit) to ensure the safety of livestock products.
Local slaughterhouses are strengthening disinfection and staff training to prevent COVID-19 infections.
In addition, in response to the recent outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Yanggu, Gangwon Province, and Yeongju, thorough quarantine management is continuously being carried out for livestock-related vehicles, personnel, and workplaces entering local slaughterhouses, focusing administrative efforts on the safe supply of livestock products.
