Lee "Yoon Seok-yeol Government's Regression and Autocracy Must Be Stopped to Protect People's Lives"
Park "Ending Hypocrisy Politics and Building a Party That Keeps Promises to the People"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Jae-myung and Park Yong-jin, candidates for the Democratic Party of Korea’s party leader, spoke with one voice in Gwangju, considered the decisive battleground of the August 28 party convention, saying they must stop the reckless actions of the Yoon Seok-yeol government. They also pledged to take the lead for a changed Democratic Party.
On the afternoon of the 21st, a joint speech meeting for the Democratic Party’s party leader and Supreme Council candidates was held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju.
At the event, candidate Lee Jae-myung emphasized, “We will firmly exercise the power entrusted by the people to the maximum extent and stop the reckless actions of the Yoon Seok-yeol government and the ruling party.”
He said, “Without relying on factions, we will create a unified, strong, and competent Democratic Party and definitely win,” adding, “We will surely take full responsibility for nationalizing the Democratic Party to meet Gwangju’s expectations and trust, so that we can win the next general election and presidential election.”
He also stated, “The current Yoon Seok-yeol government is a three-no administration: incompetent, irresponsible, and without measures,” and argued, “We must be chosen not as the lesser evil but as a definite alternative force and a governing party, to block the regression and unilateral actions of the current government and take responsibility for the lives of the people.”
Furthermore, he said, “We will build a competent Democratic Party by keeping promises to the people and through achievements and results, not by political windfalls,” emphasizing, “Differences are not grounds for exclusion but sources of synergy through role sharing. By sharing roles, we will build the trust and expectations of the people and advance as a reform and innovation party that receives absolute support from the people.”
Candidate Park Yong-jin also criticized the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.
Park said, “While we talk about the lawlessness of the Yoon government, the worst kind of lawlessness is trying to overturn the purpose of legal amendments through presidential decrees,” adding, “We passed prosecutorial reform bills reflecting the will of the people, but the president is trying to nullify them through presidential decrees. This is a challenge to the democratic republic and an act of threatening the people.”
He continued, “Our Democratic Party must unite tightly and fight to win,” raising his voice, “To do so, the Democratic Party must change.”
He also emphasized, “We must start again from the position where we disappointed the people,” and said, “We will break away from double standards politics and lead a party that keeps promises to the people.”
