Gyeonggi-do Provides Emergency Support of 8.4 Billion KRW for Flood Damage Recovery to 24 Cities and Counties
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will urgently provide a second emergency restoration fund totaling 8.4 billion KRW on the 22nd to 24 cities and counties within the province to recover from heavy rain damage.
This measure follows an emergency restoration fund demand survey conducted on the 19th targeting 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.
As a result of the survey, 24 cities and counties requested an additional emergency restoration fund worth approximately 8.4 billion KRW.
Gyeonggi Province decided to utilize 2 billion KRW from the Disaster and Safety Special Grant secured from the central government and 6.4 billion KRW from the Gyeonggi Province Disaster Management Fund for the additional support budget.
The Special Grant is a financial resource provided by the central government as part of local allocation tax to local governments to secure financial capacity, with certain conditions or usage restrictions attached.
The province plans to allocate 500 million KRW each of the 2 billion KRW Special Grant to Gwangju, Yangpyeong, and Yeoju; 100 million KRW each to Hwaseong, Seongnam, Ansan, and Siheung; and 50 million KRW to Yangju.
Additionally, 50 million KRW was allocated for emergency restoration of Namhansanseong Park facilities.
The 6.4 billion KRW Disaster Management Fund will be distributed to 24 cities and counties according to the demand survey results. Eight cities and counties including Gwangju and Yeoju will receive both the Special Grant and the Disaster Management Fund.
Previously, on the 16th, the province provided 2.6 billion KRW in emergency restoration funds to 31 cities and counties as the first round of support.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, "We must disburse the emergency restoration budget identified for each city and county as quickly as possible to provide practical help for damage recovery," and urged, "Please take all possible measures, including the prompt payment of disaster relief funds, to ensure the swift return to daily life for residents affected by the flood."
The province began flood damage investigations on the 18th following the government's declaration on the 17th that the disaster caused by heavy rain concentrated in the metropolitan area had ended.
The investigation will be conducted by the respective city, county, eup, myeon, and dong offices, with public facility assessments due by the 24th and private facility assessments by the 27th.
