Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do, said this on the 16th during the meeting of heads of departments and bureaus, directing the review of the establishment of financial rules for Gyeongsangnam-do.
He continued, “Debt has increased by 1 trillion won over the past four years,” emphasizing, “The province’s treasury should not fluctuate according to the governor’s personal thoughts.”
On the same day, Governor Park ordered safety management and direct on-site inspections by department and bureau heads in areas prone to frequent flooding, around rivers, and coastal areas in preparation for heavy rain.
He said, “Please carefully monitor grocery prices, subcontract payments, and wages in preparation for the upcoming Chuseok holiday so that residents do not experience inconvenience.”
Regarding efforts to ease the burden on residents related to the Machang Bridge, he stated, “It is not enough to just propose a research project to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport,” and ordered ▲ the preparation of Gyeongsangnam-do’s own alternatives such as project restructuring and public interest disposition ▲ avoidance of over-reliance on research projects ▲ and the creation of solutions through civil servants’ own research and consideration.
Governor Park said, “Prices and unemployment rates are not just simple statistics but measures of residents’ lives and regional competitiveness.” Regarding the recent deterioration of Gyeongnam’s economic indicators, he strongly stated, “Once problems are recognized, actively analyze the causes and prepare countermeasures through meetings of department and bureau heads.”
Governor Park lamented that recent events such as the August 15 Liberation Day and Memorial Day have become mere ceremonies.
“At least in our Gyeongnam, let us properly remember the days that are the roots of today’s prosperity of the Republic of Korea,” he said, requesting, “Prepare related programs to honor the noble spirit of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes so that children can view history correctly and take pride.”
