The simultaneous transplant was carried out on April 26, with Professor Kim Kyung-sik of the Department of Surgery performing the liver transplant and Professor Choi Ji-yoon of the Department of Surgery performing the kidney transplant.
The patient, diagnosed with diabetes seven years ago, began experiencing urinary disorders six months before the surgery and showed symptoms of jaundice one month prior to the surgery but did not receive treatment. Later, the patient was hospitalized due to acute liver failure and renal failure and maintained life in the intensive care unit with hemodialysis and vasopressors.
About four months after the simultaneous transplant surgery, the hospital explained that the patient's organ functions are operating normally and the patient is recovering health through specialized care.
Professor Kim Kyung-sik, who was in charge of the liver transplant, said, "The success of this simultaneous transplant and the patient's rapid recovery were the result of the multidisciplinary cooperation system, where specialists from surgery, internal medicine, radiology, and other departments worked together for the patient's recovery, not just the surgery."
