COVID-19 New Cases 62,078... 521 Severe Cases, Highest in 108 Days

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] On the 15th, the number of new COVID-19 cases reached the 60,000 range, continuing the upward trend compared to the same day last week. The number of critically ill patients also reached 521, the highest in 108 days.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 15th, as of midnight, 62,078 new cases were reported, bringing the total cumulative cases to 21,418,036. There were 61,682 domestic cases and 396 imported cases. The number of new cases was 1.12 times that of a week ago, maintaining a similar ratio to the previous day's 1.13 times. However, the increase compared to last week has grown.
The number of critically ill patients increased by 9 from the previous day to 521. After surpassing 500 for the first time since April 29 with 512 patients the day before, the upward trend continues. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate was 45.0%, and the semi-critical care bed occupancy rate was 65.3% on the day.
The number of new deaths was 50, down by 7 from the previous day but about twice as many as a week ago (29). By age group, 25 were aged 80 or older, 15 in their 70s, 8 in their 60s, 1 in their 50s, and 1 in their 40s. The total cumulative deaths reached 25,673, with a fatality rate of 0.12%.
