‘8·15 Gwangbok Rice’ First Harvest ... Yeongju City, the 'First Formation Site of Daehan Gwangbokdan,' Begins First Rice Cutting in Cultivation Area
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] On the 13th, the first ‘8·15 Gwangbok Rice’ harvesting event of the year was held at the farm of Lee Si-wook in Banguri, Jangsu-myeon, Yeongju-si, Gyeongbuk.
The 8·15 Gwangbok Rice harvested this time consists of early-maturing varieties Haedap and Jinok rice, and it is the first harvest after 115 days since transplanting on April 21.
The city plans to harvest 120 tons by the end of August starting with this first rice harvesting and present it to consumers during the Chuseok holiday under the brand name 8·15 Gwangbok Rice (4kg, 5kg) through Anjeong Nonghyup.
8·15 Gwangbok Rice is a brand developed in 2012 in cooperation with Anjeong Nonghyup as new rice for Chuseok to overcome difficulties in rural areas such as rice market liberalization and falling prices of rice at production sites.
It was named to be harvested around August 15 to recall the significance of Liberation Day and to inspire patriotism in future generations.
To secure external competitiveness and enhance brand value, a contract cultivation complex of 20 hectares has been established, and production incentives are provided to the cultivating farmers.
The city plans to increase added value by strengthening on-site guidance according to the growth stages tailored to the characteristics of the varieties for differentiated new rice supply and to make 8·15 Gwangbok Rice a nationally renowned premium new rice through various market development efforts.
