[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] K Shipbuilding (formerly STX Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) announced on the 12th that it has transferred the technology of the LNG Fuel Gas Supply System (LNG FGSS) to the marine equipment company KOSERI.

The technology transfer contract was signed on May 31, and K Shipbuilding transferred the LNG FGSS facilities, equipment operation, and maintenance methods to KOSERI.

This technology was developed by K Shipbuilding through a national project of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and has been used for performance testing of domestically produced equipment at the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI) Gyeongnam headquarters. However, recently, KOMERI opened a Gas Fuel Technology Center in the Mieum Industrial Complex in Busan, leaving the equipment idle.

KOSERI has completed FGSS engineering technology applying domestic parts by utilizing the transferred equipment and technology, taking a step closer to localization.

A K Shipbuilding official said, “This technology transfer has created a model for win-win development between medium-sized and small enterprises,” adding, “It has established an environment for the localization of FGSS equipment using domestic parts beyond the stage of researching and developing domestic equipment for LNG fuel supply systems in Korea, increasing the possibility of replacing key components, which were mainly procured overseas, with domestic products.”

Meanwhile, KOSERI was selected as an LNG FGSS consortium company in the recruitment announcement for demonstration equipment for the multi-purpose offshore demonstration platform construction project led by KOMERI, and plans to supply FGSS with domestic parts applied through the transferred technology.
