Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan, is officially launching the ‘Manhwacheon Revitalization Project’ in collaboration with the Gijang-eup Residents’ Autonomy Committee.
The Manhwacheon Revitalization Project is an eco-friendly initiative that Gijang-eup has been implementing since last year to improve the aesthetics and water quality of Manhwacheon, located in Dongbu-ri.
Starting last year, Gijang-eup began cultivating the aquatic plant water hyacinth on its own and transplanting it to the bottom of Manhwacheon, continuing various activities to develop Manhwacheon into a waterside space.
The main activities of the Manhwacheon Revitalization Project include ▲environmental cleanup such as cleaning the stream bed and cutting grass ▲water quality restoration activities such as planting water-purifying plants and introducing EM (effective microorganisms) soil balls that help restore water quality ▲campaigns involving local residents to prevent illegal dumping of trash and inflow of waste.
Kim Je-yeol, head of Gijang-eup, said, “Thanks to the efforts of residents, Manhwacheon is being reborn as a pleasant waterside space,” and added, “We ask everyone to keep it clean so that Manhwacheon can be a place where anyone wants to take a walk.”
