View original imageAt a regular briefing on the 9th, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Spokesperson Ahn Eun-joo stated, "Both sides are expected to exchange views on major international issues including the regional situation encompassing the Korean Peninsula, climate change, the situation in Ukraine, and preparations for the 77th UN General Assembly."
Deputy Spokesperson Ahn said, "This will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between our country, a global pivotal state upholding universal values such as liberal democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, and the United Nations."
Regarding the Korean Peninsula issue, the two sides are expected to discuss measures for international cooperation to restrain North Korean provocations and achieve denuclearization.
Accompanying Secretary-General Guterres on his visit to Korea from the 11th to 12th will be key senior UN officials, including the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, the Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, and the Assistant Secretary-General for Climate Change.

Secretary-General Guterres previously visited Korea in 2018 to attend the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Following visits to Japan and Mongolia, Secretary-General Guterres is scheduled to have lunch with President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 12th.
