Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom Writes Letter for 'Heatwave Rest Festival'... Hopes for Participation from Over 2,100 Companies
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “Please observe the heatwave rest system!”
In response to the ongoing heatwave, Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom sent a letter encouraging local companies to participate in the ‘heatwave rest system.’
On the 5th, Ulsan City introduced that it sent letters to representatives of about 2,100 companies striving for economic development amid the difficult economic conditions caused by COVID-19, requesting their participation in the heatwave rest system to prepare for the heatwave.
Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom wrote, “Due to recent climate changes, the number of heat-related illnesses occurring during work every summer is continuously increasing, raising concerns that the heatwave may harm workers’ health and safety. We ask companies to actively participate in the ‘heatwave rest system’ and to comply with basic rules for preventing heatstroke (providing water, shade, and rest).”
The heatwave rest system grants a 10-minute break after 50 minutes of work when a heatwave advisory is issued during the peak heat hours from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and a 15-minute break after 45 minutes of work when a heatwave warning is issued.
