[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jeong-wan] On the 3rd, a large sinkhole occurred near Naksan Beach in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon Province, causing a convenience store building to collapse.
According to Yangyang-gun, at around 6:43 a.m. that day, a large sinkhole formed near a new residential lodging facility construction site in Jucheong-ri, Ganghyeon-myeon, Yangyang-gun, close to Naksan Beach, causing part of a nearby convenience store building to collapse.
At the time, the fire department received reports stating, "The convenience store building is tilting. It is about to fall."
There were no injuries from the accident, but a commotion ensued as 96 people, including guests staying at nearby lodging facilities, evacuated on their own. The convenience store building was half-destroyed, and damage such as ruptured water and sewage pipes occurred.
Currently, employees from the water and sewage department are carrying out restoration work, and the sinkhole is estimated to be 12 meters wide, 8 meters long, and 5 meters deep.
