Gangwon-do to Launch 'Pilot Project for Solitary Death Prevention and Management' Starting August
Chuncheon-si and Gangneung-si Participation... Early Detection of At-Risk Individuals, Counseling, Treatment, and Service Connection
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province will implement a pilot project for the prevention and management of solitary deaths from this month until the end of next year.
The province announced on the 2nd that it was "finally selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Pilot Project for the Prevention and Management of Solitary Deaths'."
Chuncheon City and Gangneung City will participate as pilot project areas, aiming to prevent solitary deaths by early detection of individuals at risk of solitary death in each region, providing counseling, treatment, and service linkage.
Chuncheon City plans to utilize the existing 'Care Headquarters' for elderly living alone aged 65 and over who are at high risk of solitary death, establishing a system to identify at-risk households in connection with public medical facilities.
Gangneung City will conduct a full survey and promote user-centered services using artificial intelligence for single-person households aged 50 to 69 and de facto single-person households (elderly care households, disabled care households, and households caring for patients with severe illnesses) to facilitate service linkage.
As of 2020, the proportion of single-person households in Gangwon Province was 35%, higher than the national average of 31.7%, and it is expected to reach 41.9%, the highest nationwide, by 2047, which is accompanied by an increased risk of solitary death.
