Ending Ground Subsidence... Ulsan City and Ulju-gun to Renovate 11km of Old and Defective Sewers
Maintenance of Sewer Pipelines from Ulsan to Seoul Underway Since 2004
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City is promoting maintenance work to systematically and efficiently manage old or defective sewage pipelines in Ulju-gun.
This project is based on the detailed investigation of aging sewage pipes conducted in Ulju-gun from 2015 to 2016, and construction will begin in November this year, continuing until 2024.
The project targets a total length of 11 km of old or defective sewage pipelines in seven areas including Eonyang, Samnam, and Ungchon.
Most of this section is buried with concrete pipes, raising serious concerns about ground subsidence caused by pipe corrosion, making maintenance urgent.
Ulsan City plans to invest a total project cost of 10 billion KRW, including 5 billion KRW in national funds, to improve the water quality of public water bodies and prevent ground subsidence in advance, thereby creating a pleasant urban environment.
An official from Ulsan City said, “We will focus on preventing accident risks such as ground subsidence caused by damage to aging pipes in the urban and suburban areas of Ulju-gun and improving sewage treatment efficiency.”
