Gwangju Buk-gu Hosts World Breastfeeding Week Promotion Event
Event Promoting Breastfeeding for Pregnant Women and Others in Observance of World Breastfeeding Week
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 1st that it will promote a campaign encouraging breastfeeding and raising awareness of its importance targeting pregnant women in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.
World Breastfeeding Week is observed from the 1st to the 7th of August and was designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to promote breastfeeding. It is celebrated annually during the first week of August to enhance the health of mothers and babies.
Accordingly, Buk-gu will distribute breastfeeding promotional materials to pregnant women registered at the public health center during August.
Additionally, on the 3rd and 12th, breastfeeding promotion campaigns will be held at Buk-gu delivery medical institutions (Eden Hospital, Bitgoeul Women's Hospital, Munhwa Women's Hospital).
Furthermore, professional breastfeeding education will be provided twice, on the 23rd and 25th, for 50 pregnant women residing in Buk-gu who apply for the program.
Residents wishing to participate in the education can apply at the Buk-gu Public Health Center's Health Promotion Division from the 12th to the 19th.
A Buk-gu Office official stated, “We will continue to provide ongoing promotional and educational programs to raise awareness of breastfeeding and create an environment that supports its practice.”
