'2012 Yeosu World Expo 10th Anniversary Event' Successfully Concluded

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that the ‘2012 Yeosu World Expo 10th Anniversary Commemoration Event,’ held for ten days from the 22nd to the 31st of last month, was successfully concluded.

According to the city, a total of 188,347 people visited the Yeosu World Expo site during the event period.

During the first three days, when major events such as the commemorative ceremony were held, 58,793 people gathered, allowing citizens and tourists to feel the passionate enthusiasm.

The ‘Remind Hall Memory Wall,’ prepared to capture visitors’ messages, was mainly filled with congratulations on the Expo’s 10th anniversary and expressions of love for Yeosu.

Government officials, Expo contributors, and various stakeholders who attended the event expressed strong consensus on the urgent promotion of the post-use of the Expo site after seeing the aging facilities.

In particular, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries expressed its commitment to post-use on the first day of the event through a commemorative speech, stating, “We hope for the prompt passage of the amendment to the Yeosu World Expo Special Act in the National Assembly to promote public-led post-use. We ask for much interest from Jeollanam-do and Yeosu citizens in the amendment to the Special Act.”

Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, “This 10th anniversary commemoration event will be a signal connecting Yeosu’s past and future,” and added, “We will do our best to successfully host the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo and attract COP33 for the co-growth of the southern coast’s southern central region and the leap to a hub city of the southern coast.”
