Korea University Anam Hospital Resumes Operation of Seoul-Style Pediatric Outpatient Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Korea University Anam Hospital has resumed the operation of the Seoul-type Pediatric Outpatient Center.
The hospital announced on the 1st that it urgently activated an infectious disease treatment system composed of experts from various fields within the hospital to prepare for the reopening in a short period. The outpatient center opened at 10 a.m. that day.
The Seoul-type Pediatric Outpatient Center was established in a modular ward built last May. It is a medical facility for outpatient treatment and care of pediatric and adolescent COVID-19 confirmed patients, operating with 10 beds. Currently, outpatient treatment and daily admission for tests and treatment are possible, and it can also be used as inpatient beds if necessary.
The modular ward is a hybrid form combining air tents and architectural structures, with the advantage of quick and sturdy installation. Inside, a comprehensive system is equipped that allows not only treatment but also procedures, specimen collection and diagnosis, radiological examinations, and fully automated drug management to be conducted all at once. The hospital explained that it can flexibly respond to future infectious disease outbreaks by immediately changing functional aspects including bed structure and treatment areas, not only for COVID-19 but also for subsequent epidemics.
Lee Sung-woo, director of the Seoul-type Pediatric Outpatient Center (Emergency Medicine), said, "We have resumed treatment so that pediatric and adolescent confirmed patients can protect their health through fast and accurate care," adding, "Urgent tests and procedures can be performed immediately for pediatric confirmed patients who need urgent care between emergency and outpatient treatment."
