Gwangju Seobu Fire Station "Please Keep Fire Extinguishers in Vehicles"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station announced on the 28th that it urges the installation of 'vehicle fire extinguishers' to reduce human and property damage caused by vehicle fires amid continuous heatwave warnings.
According to statistics from the National Fire Agency, there were 292 vehicle fires in the Gwangju area over the past three years (2019-2021), with 95 cases (33%) occurring between June and August.
In particular, 42 vehicle fires occurred in August, when the average maximum temperature exceeded 32 degrees Celsius.
Currently, vehicle fire extinguishers are legally required only in vehicles with seven or more seats, but according to the revised Firefighting Facilities Installation and Maintenance Act, which will be enforced from December 1, 2024, all vehicles with five or more seats will be required to have vehicle fire extinguishers installed.
Vehicle fire extinguishers can be easily found online, at large supermarkets, or fire equipment retailers, and must be purchased as products certified for 'automobile use' through KFI.
