Yun Byeongtae, Mayor of Naju, Holds Guesthouse Meeting... Listens to Difficulties and Suggestions
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Jeonnam Naju City (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) held its first Minbak meeting to implement field-centered communication administration in the 8th local government.
According to the city on the 28th, Mayor Yoon Byung-tae held a Minbak meeting at the Jami Village Senior Citizens' Center in Bannam-myeon from 8 p.m. the previous day, listening to residents' difficulties and suggestions and having an informal conversation time.
The 'Minbak meeting' is a pledge task of the 8th local government to directly visit the lives of citizens from all walks of life during evening hours after work, collect difficulties and suggestions through free conversations, and reflect the voices from the field of public livelihood in city administration.
The meeting was conducted focusing on dialogue with residents by omitting unnecessary opening ceremonies, protocol, reporting procedures, and minimizing the number of guests and public officials attending except for residents.
At Mayor Yoon's first Minbak meeting, about 30 villagers attended, including Kim Jeong-i, President of the Senior Citizens' Association of Bannam-myeon, Oh Jong-yeon, Chairman of the Village Leaders' Council, Jeong Hong-chae, President of the Mahan Relics Preservation Association, Noh Young-sook, President of the Women's Association, Kim Gil-nam, President of the Prosperity Association, and Im Jeong-ok, President of the Bannam Merchants' Association.
The residents, gathered closely at the Jami Village Senior Citizens' Center, suggested to Mayor Yoon the prompt resolution of large and small pending village projects and various difficulties in daily life.
The residents requested the 'resolution of the odor problem from pig farms near Jamisan Mountain,' 'maintenance of the roundabout in the township center,' 'installation of exercise equipment in front of the village hall,' 'installation of flower gardens around the township center and Sangrojae,' 'completion within the year of the Bannam Burial Mounds Historical Theme Park infrastructure project,' and 'maintenance of vacant houses in the township center.'
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, "I will promptly review the contents suggested by the residents through on-site visits," and added, "I will carefully oversee and steadily resolve issues so that many people can return to Bannam-myeon, where cultural heritage breathes, and rural villages."
He continued, "I thank each resident who made the first Minbak meeting a lively place of dialogue and discussion, forgetting fatigue until late at night," and added, "Regarding the suggested matters, each department will visit the site to reflect the residents' voices as much as possible and promptly review and handle them."
He also said, "If there are any suggestions that could not be made due to time constraints, please submit them through the township head, and we will handle them together," receiving applause from the residents.
Oh Jong-yeon, Chairman of the Village Leaders' Council, said, "It was usually difficult to visit the city hall during the day due to busy farming work, but it was really a fruitful time to have a conversation with the mayor who came directly at night," and expressed his hope, "I hope there will be such small and comfortable dialogue opportunities in the future."
Starting with Jami Village in Bannam-myeon this month, Mayor Yoon will meet residents once or twice a month at village halls, senior citizens' centers, and sites of pending projects in 20 eup, myeon, and dong areas.
The Minbak meeting, reflecting Mayor Yoon's will who ordered the public service community to practice "administration felt with the heart on-site, not administration done with the head at the desk" after taking office and emphasized that "if you report, listen, and experience, you can deeply understand the essence of the problem," is expected to relieve the citizens' long-standing communication thirst and establish itself as a bridge for communication between the public and government.
