The goal is to contribute to innovation toward a digital government by developing customized products based on domestic technology. A cloud PC refers to a service that provides a personalized computing environment by implementing multiple computing resources (CPU, memory, disk, operating system, etc.) required for an individual to use a PC on a centrally located cloud server with virtualization technology applied.
SK Broadband, Naver Cloud, AhnLab, TmaxOS, and Hancom announced on the 21st that they have signed a strategic business agreement to launch a combined cloud PC product based on each company's specialized capabilities. They plan to develop and provide products that support the digital government innovation plan, creating an environment where people can work like they are in the office anytime and anywhere.
Actively responding to the offensive of foreign cloud providers, they will also fully engage in revitalizing the domestic cloud ecosystem and expanding the market based on indigenous technology. To this end, SK Broadband will optimize the cloud PC solution, Naver Cloud the cloud infrastructure, AhnLab cloud security, and TmaxOS and Hancom will focus on developing an open operating system (OS).
Additionally, they plan to develop products that meet the growing demand for smart office construction in general companies, which has expanded due to COVID-19, and strengthen cooperation for sustainable growth by conducting joint sales to secure customers.
Furthermore, they will continuously respond to the government's digital transformation efforts, including ▲transition to smart work environments supporting field-centered collaboration ▲establishment of guidelines for introducing Desktop as a Service (DaaS) for central administrative agencies' internet networks ▲preparation of remote and telecommuting guidelines due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on this cooperation, SK Broadband and Naver Cloud plan to jointly develop and launch within the year a DaaS service for public institutions called ‘Cloud Desktop.’ ‘Cloud Desktop’ features higher security than existing VPN-based remote work and improved efficiency through centralized management, utilizing the companies’ internalized proprietary technologies.
After the product launch, they plan to prepare customized integrated products with partners and actively market them to public institutions.
SK Broadband was the first domestic telecommunications company to commercialize cloud PC services based on indigenous core technology. Its independent development capabilities, free from reliance on foreign technology, allow rapid response to customer requirements and flexible accommodation of stringent national security requirements, which is its greatest strength. Recently, it has further strengthened its position based on high-level security competitiveness, including obtaining the National Intelligence Service’s security function confirmation certificate.
Naver Cloud leads the domestic cloud market with solid technology and a proven brand. It has the largest cloud product lineup in Korea, offering over 200 services across 20 categories. Since the first public cloud digital service specialized contract, it has participated in major public projects such as the COVID-19 vaccine reservation system and the nationwide e-Learning platform operated by the Korea Education and Research Information Service in 17 cities and provinces, demonstrating the stability and usability of its cloud services.
AhnLab is a leading domestic information security company providing integrated security solutions and services across all areas, including endpoint, network, monitoring, and consulting, with its V3 product line being synonymous with antivirus. TmaxOS and Hancom are leading the expansion of open OS optimized for DaaS work environments in public institutions.
