Boseong-gun Implements Comprehensive Measures for Proactive Heatwave Response
Promotion of Smart Shade Installation and Urban Area Water Sprinkling Project
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Jeollanam-do Boseong-gun announced that it will implement a comprehensive heatwave response plan until September 30 to proactively respond to the heatwave.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, this summer's average temperature is expected to be higher than usual, with increased frequency and intensity. So far, the number of heat-related illness cases nationwide has been recorded to be more than three times that of the same period last year.
Accordingly, Boseong-gun formed a joint inspection team consisting of disaster and welfare departments and 12 eup/myeon (township) offices to minimize heatwave damage. The joint inspection team focused on checking the operation of cooling facilities in 410 heat-relief shelters within the jurisdiction and the status of personal COVID-19 prevention measures.
Additionally, two water-spraying trucks are operating to reduce the heat by sprinkling water around the Boseong and Beolgyo traditional markets and major roads.
Smart shade shelters (9 locations) have been installed near crosswalks in densely populated areas, with plans to add three more locations in August.
Activation of heat-relief shelters is also being promoted.
Through life-cycle visiting safety education, residents are guided on heatwave preparedness and behavior. Promotional materials to reduce heatwave damage, such as fans, cool arm sleeves, and cool scarves, are distributed to raise residents' safety awareness.
Kim Cheol-woo, the governor of Boseong-gun, said, "We will do our utmost to prevent heatwave-related casualties such as heat-related illnesses." He added, "We ask residents to prevent heatwave damage by drinking water frequently, refraining from outdoor activities (outdoor work) during midday, and taking rest at heat-relief shelters to take care of their health."
