Gwangyang Steelworks Enhances Employee Mental Health... Strengthening Psychological Support Using Neuroscience
Measuring Brain Health and Personalized Stress Management for Employees through EEG and Pulse Wave Analysis
Available by Advance Reservation at the In-House Psychological Counseling Room 'Mindfulness Center Hyu (休)'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) is expanding the provision of brainwave tests and psychological counseling to lead the psychological stability and job stress relief of its employees.
The Gwangyang Steelworks Health Promotion Center (Center Director Chae Ji-hye) measures brain health by analyzing brainwaves and pulse waves for applicants, and helps employees manage stress with personalized programs based on the test results.
Recently, due to high satisfaction and great response to the brainwave tests, Gwangyang Steelworks decided to expand the program for more active mental health management of employees and conducted a pilot operation in the Safety and Environment Division.
The brainwave test, which takes about 10 minutes, checks whether the distribution of 8 items falls within the normal range, and professional psychological counselors provide individual counseling for employees who wish to have additional consultations.
Employees in the Safety and Environment Division responded, “I realized that mental health is as important as physical health,” “I will actively use psychological counseling whenever I feel stressed in the future,” and “I felt relieved after sharing worries that are hard to talk about.”
Gwangyang Steelworks plans to gradually expand various psychological testing opportunities using neuroscience for employees to thoroughly manage workplace stress.
In particular, the test results will be used as basic data for employee mental health management and reflected in existing △safety psychology △job stress management programs to provide more effective psychological support services.
The neuroscience-based tests are available at the in-house counseling room “Mindfulness Center 休 (Hyu),” located on the 3rd floor of Baegun Medical Center in Geumho-dong.
Employees of POSCO, its affiliates, and partner companies can easily make reservations in advance via phone, email, or internal messenger. In addition, various psychological support programs such as △communication improvement △mutual understanding through MBTI △safety psychology △psychological trauma prevention help reduce stress from work and daily life.
A representative of the Gwangyang Steelworks Health Promotion Center said, “As the importance of mental health is increasingly emphasized due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we will expand various supports so that employees can maintain a positive mindset both at work and in daily life.”
