LGU+ to Switch to 100% Renewable Energy by 2050

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it has published the "2021 Sustainability Management Report," summarizing its goals for sustainable management and activities from the previous year.
This report features LG Uplus's activities, including ESG directions linked to business strategies, key tasks, and ESG achievements compared to the previous year, based on the main management policy of "Customer First."
In particular, LG Uplus's ESG directions were established with goals such as providing safe products and services trusted by customers, building a company where employees grow together and want to stay long-term, and solving community issues through ICT technology innovation.
In the environmental sector, a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 was established to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company is promoting joining the Korean version of RE100 (K-RE100) within the year and has analyzed the main factors of carbon emissions to prepare detailed implementation plans.
According to the reduction roadmap, LG Uplus plans to reduce carbon emissions to 38% of the 2021 levels by 2030, in line with the Science Based Targets initiative, and achieve 100% renewable energy conversion by 2050. To this end, it will continue its own reduction efforts, such as installing eco-friendly switching devices and outdoor air cooling systems.
Along with this, aiming for 100% recycling of waste generated from business sites such as waste cables and communication equipment by 2025, LG Uplus selected eco-friendly entrusted processing companies and introduced "smart recycling bins," achieving a recycling rate of 98.5%.
In the social sector, activities pursuing zero complaints have shown results as the internal culture for customer experience innovation spreads. A survey on satisfaction (t-NPS) at customer contact points recorded a 10% increase in stores, 7% in home installation/AS, and 22% in corporate·SOHO compared to the previous year. For employees, the "Why Not? Campaign," which emphasizes bold challenges, was conducted, and employee satisfaction reached 90% in the internal organizational culture survey, a 2%P increase from the previous year.
