Nationwide First in Water Supply Sector: Establishment of 'Risk Assessment Smart Standard'... Copyright Registered Last April
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority announced on the 15th that it won the Excellence Award for the first time among government and local governments at the 2022 ‘Risk Assessment Best Practice Presentation Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and organized by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency on the 6th.
The ‘Risk Assessment Best Practice Presentation Contest’ is an event held annually to discover and present best practices to promote and establish the ‘Risk Assessment System,’ which encourages employers to identify, evaluate, and improve hazardous and risky factors on their own. It is considered a major event during the Industrial Safety and Health Emphasis Week held in the first week of July every year.
Since the contest began in 2013, this is the first award won by a government or local government entity, drawing attention as the only public institution among the six workplaces that advanced to the finals this year. The finalists included Susanin Deoseuteori Daegu Branch, Romenduhaseu Jeonjajaeryo Korea Ltd., Samsung C&T Hwaseong HPC Center New Construction Project, Balex Service Cheongju Hynix Equipment Technology Team, Daebo Information and Communication, and the Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority.
At the finals held on the 6th at KINTEX in Ilsan, six workplaces that passed the preliminary round among 15 nationwide workplaces (institutions) participating in the contest introduced their risk assessment promotion activities and best practices in safety and health. The presentations were evaluated by professors and experts from various fields.
The Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority was honored with the Excellence Award by introducing outstanding cases of risk assessment implemented on-site based on the ‘Smart Standard for Risk Assessment in the Waterworks Sector,’ which was the first of its kind established nationwide in the waterworks field.
The ‘Smart Standard for Risk Assessment in the Waterworks Sector’ is an evaluation criterion that standardizes hazardous and risky factors for each facility and construction project by reflecting the characteristics of waterworks facilities such as water intake and purification plants, reservoirs, manholes, and major projects like water pipeline construction. In April, it also completed intellectual property rights (copyright) registration with the Korea Copyright Commission, recognizing its originality and creativity.
