The province plans to implement the Crime Prevention Environment Urban Development Project by installing 152 intelligent CCTVs and 176 emergency bells in public restrooms.
The Crime Prevention Environment Urban Development Project is a four-year plan from 2019 to 2022 with a total budget of about 11 billion KRW, introducing the CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) technique to prevent crime through environmental design.
According to the province, as of last year, 462 intelligent CCTVs and 701 emergency bells in public restrooms have been installed. With the increase in intelligent CCTVs, the number of real-time responses at the city and county CCTV integrated control centers rose from 20,319 cases in 2019 to 25,590 cases in 2021.
Through real-time monitoring, cases such as ▲providing first aid and hospital transport for those in need ▲police guidance for students drinking or smoking in parks ▲early fire response and rapid extinguishing have continued.
A provincial official said, “A satisfaction survey conducted among residents near the project sites showed that over 80% expressed the opinion that intelligent CCTVs and emergency bells in public restrooms should be expanded.”
To ensure the effectiveness of the project, from May to June, a joint inspection team from cities and counties was formed to check ▲whether intelligent CCTVs are operating normally ▲whether emergency bells in public restrooms are properly connected to the 112 situation room ▲whether black boxes and warning lights in public restrooms are functioning properly ▲and the maintenance status of other facilities.
