The headquarters stated that due to abnormal climate conditions, wildfires have become larger and prolonged, with numerous large-scale wildfires occurring nationwide in the first half of this year, including in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon.
Within the province, large wildfires occurred in Hapcheon-gun in February and in Miryang-si in May, prompting a nationwide fire mobilization order.
According to 119 dispatch statistics, 76 wildfires occurred in the first half of this year alone, which is 1.4 times the average of the past five years.
The headquarters anticipates an increase in wildfires this fall and winter and has promoted emergency water supply training to actively respond to firefighting duties prioritizing the protection of lives and facilities according to the "Regulations on the Duties and Roles of Wildfire Suppression Agencies."
