Samsung Youth SW Academy 8th Class 1,150 Students Enroll... First Step for SW Developers
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Samsung held the 8th SSAFY (Samsung Software Academy For Youth) entrance ceremony at the SSAFY Seoul campus and embarked on nurturing software (SW) developers.
According to Samsung Electronics on the 13th, the 8th SSAFY class enrolled 1,150 students across five campuses nationwide. Including the 7th class, which began training in January this year, SSAFY provides software education to approximately 2,300 students annually.
SSAFY is a CSR program launched by Samsung in 2018 as part of its economic revitalization and job creation initiatives, aimed at expanding the domestic IT ecosystem base and enhancing youth employment competitiveness. Due to COVID-19, SSAFY has been conducting fully online education since November 2020, but from this month, offline classes will be held concurrently.
To coincide with the resumption of offline classes, SSAFY has additionally equipped practical training materials to enhance the effectiveness of software education. The Seoul and Gwangju campuses, which offer IoT-specialized education, have established labs equipped with the latest 3D printers and other devices, allowing trainees to implement the software projects they develop directly on hardware. The Seoul campus has been operating such labs since 2020.
The Gumi campus, which specializes in software education for mobile devices, has added various devices running different operating systems, providing a practical environment where trainees can directly test the code they create on multiple devices.
The SSAFY 8th entrance ceremony held at the Seoul campus was attended by Kwon Ki-seop, Vice Minister of Employment and Labor; Eom Tae-young, member of the People Power Party; Ko Min-jung, member of the Democratic Party; Lee Jae-seung, President of Samsung Electronics’ Consumer Electronics Division; and 100 trainees. Additionally, 1,050 trainees from the Daejeon, Gwangju, Gumi, and Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam campuses participated both online and offline.
