[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Metropolitan Council has completed the formation of its 9th term.
According to the city council on the 6th, three plenary sessions were held from the 1st to the 5th, during which the election of three chairpersons and the appointment of chairpersons and members for six standing committees and two special committees were finalized.
Heo Sik (Dong-gu), a member of the People Power Party who previously served as a city councilor in the 5th term and a Dong-gu councilor in the 8th term, was elected as the chairperson of the city council.
He is the only re-elected city councilor among the People Power Party members, which is the majority party. He is also a classmate of Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok from Songnim Elementary School, Seonin Middle School, and Jemulpo High School.
Lee Bong-rak (Michuhol 3) of the People Power Party was elected as the 1st vice chairperson, and Park Jong-hyeok (Bupyeong 6) of the Democratic Party was elected as the 2nd vice chairperson. Among the six standing committee chairpersons, five are from the People Power Party and one is from the Democratic Party.
The chairpersons of each standing committee are ▲ Administration and Safety Committee: Shin Dong-seop (People Power, Namdong 4) ▲ Culture and Welfare Committee: Kim Jong-deuk (Democratic, Gyeyang 2) ▲ Industry and Economy Committee: Jeong Hae-gwon (People Power, Yeonsu 1) ▲ Construction and Transportation Committee: Im Gwan-man (People Power, Jung-gu 1) ▲ Education Committee: Shin Chung-sik (People Power, Seo-gu 4) ▲ Council Operation Committee: Han Min-su (People Power, Namdong 5).
Park Yong-cheol (People Power, Ganghwa) was appointed as the chairperson of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee, and Lee Soon-hak (Democratic, Seo-gu 5) was appointed as the chairperson of the Ethics Special Committee. The Incheon Metropolitan Council consists of 40 members, with 26 from the People Power Party and 14 from the Democratic Party.
