Kim Sang-hyun, Vice Chairman and CEO of Lotte Distribution Group HQ, emphasized this in a video message titled 'Sam Talks: The Present and Future of the Distribution Group' posted on the Lotte Distribution Group's company-wide bulletin board on the 5th. He stated, "The HQ should present an integrated vision for the 11 affiliated companies, including the shopping division, and act as a support force to help the affiliates."
Kim also mentioned the need for innovation in three aspects?organizational culture, business, and portfolio?to solve the challenges the distribution group has faced in recent years. He explained, "We must innovate the organization's capabilities, working methods, and overall culture to quickly adapt to the rapidly changing society," adding, "In terms of organizational culture innovation, a working method based on the '5S' must be established."
The 5S he emphasized are simplification of work methods through selection and concentration centered on customer value (Simplify), standardization of work methods to reduce unnecessary time and resource waste (Standardize), creation of synergy through collaboration (Synergy), expansion of businesses that affiliates must achieve together (Scale), and transparent communication sharing goals and purposes among employees (Sharing).
Kim also stated, "We will proceed with structural improvements for the 11 affiliates to innovate the business," emphasizing, "From a long-term perspective, portfolio innovation must be achieved for future growth."
To achieve the vision of being 'the customers' first shopping destination,' employees must commit to five pledges: ▲being the first to come to customers' minds when they think of shopping ▲providing products with the best value and highest quality ▲offering a positive shopping experience from start to finish both online and offline ▲ensuring our employees provide the best service to customers ▲and having an eco-friendly and positive impact on society.

Since his appointment in February this year, Vice Chairman Kim has visited stores nationwide, listening to employees' stories and sharing concerns. In a video message distributed last January, he asked to be called Sam comfortably and emphasized transparent and proactive communication. Since March, through an employee communication program called Let's Sammul, he has met with employees of the distribution group affiliates more than six times. Last month, he also held a distribution group town hall meeting inviting about 50 employees.
