Election of Ruling Party's Jeong Jin-seok and Opposition's Kim Young-joo as National Assembly Deputy Speakers (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporters Bomryeong Kim and Juni Park] Kim Young-joo of the Democratic Party of Korea and Jeong Jin-seok of the People Power Party were officially elected as the Speakers of the 21st National Assembly's second half.
On the afternoon of the 4th, 258 members of the National Assembly gathered for a vote in the plenary session, resulting in Kim receiving a total of 243 votes and being elected as the Deputy Speaker. Jeong received 223 out of 235 votes.
Kim became the second female Deputy Speaker in the history of the National Assembly, following her predecessor Kim Sang-hee.
