Gokseong-gun Selected as the Best Water Management Institution in 2022
Achievements in Promoting Metropolitan and Local Water Supply Expansion Projects in Majon and Seomjingang Areas
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it was selected as the '2022 Best Water Management Institution' at the 2022 Water Management Symposium held on the 30th at the Korea Water Resources Corporation Human Resources Development Institute in Daejeon.
Environment Times and Environment Broadcasting GKBS hold the annual Water Management Symposium with the support of the National Assembly Water Forum, the Ministry of Environment, and Korea Water Resources Corporation K-water.
Through this, local governments that have efficiently performed their duties in the field of water management each year are selected and awarded certificates of commendation.
This year, along with Gokseong-gun, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Cheongju City, and Buyeo-gun were selected as the best water management institutions.
The Gokseong-gun Water and Sewage Business Office has been promoting the expansion project of metropolitan and local water supply systems in the Majon area and Seomjingang area since 2018 to ensure a stable water supply.
A total project cost of 16.9 billion KRW has been invested in the Majon area, which is currently in the completion stage as of 2022.
It plans to supply new metropolitan and local water supply systems to 13 villages in 7 eup and myeon (towns and townships).
The Seomjingang area has a total project cost of 7.6 billion KRW.
It is scheduled to be completed in 2024 and will supply local water to 6 villages in 2 myeon.
Additionally, since 2019, the local water supply modernization project, which is a renovation project for aging water pipelines, has been underway with a goal of completion in 2023.
The core of the project is the modernization of the local water supply operation system through the renovation of aging water pipelines, block construction, and the introduction of a maintenance management system.
Through this, it is expected to establish a virtuous cycle structure for the water supply business and improve the water service rate, thereby providing a stable supply of domestic water.
Also, having been selected for the Ministry of Environment's 2020 public project, the renovation project of the aging water purification plant in Gokseong-gun is being promoted until 2023.
By improving the aging facilities of the Gokseong Water Purification Plant, which has been in operation for over 40 years after completion, it is expected to respond to the increase in domestic water usage due to the expansion of the water supply area.
Great efforts are also being made to supply safe and clean tap water.
For example, a project to build smart pipeline management infrastructure with a budget of 2.3 billion KRW was carried out in 2022.
This establishes a monitoring system during the tap water supply process to prevent water supply accidents and lays the foundation for rapid response in case of accidents.
A representative from the Gokseong-gun Water and Sewage Business Office said, “Taking this award as an opportunity, we will supply drinking water more stably to the residents and do our best to improve water quality.”
