County to Train 50,000 Digital Talents with IT Companies
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The military is partnering with leading companies in the information technology (IT) sector to nurture talent. The plan is to train 50,000 digital talents by 2026.
On the 4th, the Ministry of National Defense announced that it will hold the 'Military Personnel Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Software Capability Enhancement Vision Proclamation Ceremony' at the Army 6th Division in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, together with the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The Ministry of National Defense plans to improve the educational infrastructure of pilot units such as the 6th Division every year to provide AI and software education through an online interactive platform, and to establish sisterhood partnerships between pilot units and private digital innovation companies to conduct mentoring by current company employees and on-site company visits simultaneously.
The sisterhood partnerships will be established between Amazon AWS Korea and the Air Force 7th Air Communications Battalion, Microsoft Korea and the Marine Corps Command, Kakao Enterprise and the Army 6th Division, Naver and the Army 6th Corps, KT and the Armed Forces Command and Communications Command, and ELICE and the Navy 7th Expeditionary Task Group.
At the vision proclamation ceremony venue, promotional booths of participating companies were also set up. The autonomous driving model car 'Deep Racer' exhibited by Amazon is a case created in collaboration with soldiers from the Air Force 7th Air Communications Battalion, which has a sisterhood partnership with Amazon. The mobile X-ray equipment equipped with AI for diagnosing chest diseases, developed through the 'AI Convergence Diffusion Project' jointly conducted by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Science and ICT, also attracted visitors' attention. This equipment analyzes chest diseases within 3 seconds and will be piloted this year at five Army units in Gangwon Province.
The newly established dedicated training center 'Pureunbyeol' (?星) at the 6th Division for military personnel's AI and software education was also unveiled. It is a facility designed with reference to digital companies' workspaces to foster an autonomous problem-solving and creative learning environment.
