"Shinsegae Department Store Gyeonggi Branch, Food Hall Renewal Success"… Sales Per Pyeong Doubled in One Year
1st Anniversary Event Featuring Up to 70% Discount on Livestock and Wine
Shinsegae Prime Paid Membership for Food Hall Surpasses 1,500 Subscribers
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Shinsegae Department Store Gyeonggi Branch has captured the taste buds of customers in the southern Gyeonggi commercial area just one year after renewing its food hall.
Last July, the Gyeonggi branch renovated the food hall on the second basement floor, introducing over 100 new brands. Experts stationed in each section, including meat, prepared foods, and health, provide services tailored to customer preferences and demands, and the industry’s first exclusive food hall membership service was launched.
Customer response was enthusiastic. According to Shinsegae Department Store on the 3rd, from the reopening day on July 6 last year until the end of June this year, the food hall’s sales per square meter doubled compared to before the renewal. The average spending per customer also increased by 15%.
The paid food hall membership service 'Shinsegae Prime,' first introduced at the Gyeonggi branch, showed that members spent on average five times more per month than non-members. Members also visited three times more frequently than non-members, and the number of subscribers surpassed 1,500.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the food hall renewal, the Gyeonggi branch is holding a sale of up to 70% off on meat, agricultural, and seafood products on the second basement floor food hall until the 17th. Until the 14th, various summer ingredients and seasonal fruits are available. Representative products include Korean beef soup cuts, Geobong grapes, and apple mangoes.
The wine shop features a collection ranging from premium wines to cost-effective options. Representative products include Maison Leroy Bourgogne Rouge Blanc, Solaia, and Robert Mondavi Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Customers purchasing wine will receive an eco-friendly wine carrier on a first-come, first-served basis for purchases over 30,000 KRW.
Until the 17th, customers who spend over 50,000 KRW at the food market using Shinsegae affiliated cards will receive a 5,000 KRW food market discount coupon, and those who spend over 100,000 KRW or 200,000 KRW will receive 5,000 KRW or 10,000 KRW gift certificates, respectively.
Until the 10th, an online special event is also being held through SSG.com. A total of 20 brands, including Korean beef, dried yellow corvina, and O’Sulloc, are participating with over 460 items offered at discounts of up to 80%.
The paid food hall membership, first introduced and successfully established at the Gyeonggi branch, will be expanded to other stores. Following the introduction of the Prime service at Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science in February, it is planned to be introduced at Gwangju Shinsegae next month.
The Gyeonggi branch attracts about 30% of its customers from Seoul and Chungcheong areas, as well as the southern Gyeonggi commercial area, emerging as a regional shopping landmark. It captivates customers with differentiated content based on phased renewals of the luxury goods hall, living goods hall, and street fashion hall.
