Seogwipo Coast Guard to Operate 'Maritime Patrol Unit' Until the 31st of Next Month
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Seogwipo Coast Guard Station (Chief Kim Jin-young) announced on the 1st that it will operate a maritime patrol unit at two local beaches (Pyoseon, Jungmun) and coastal waters from the 1st to the 31st of next month, coinciding with the opening of the beach season.
The Seogwipo Coast Guard plans to deploy maritime patrol units to Pyoseon and Jungmun, which are far from the jurisdictional police stations among the four designated local beaches (Shinyang, Pyoseon, Jungmun, Hwasun), and respond quickly to safety accidents using personal watercraft.
Since beach safety management was transferred to local governments in 2017, the Coast Guard has been responsible for safety management of the sea area outside the swimming boundary lines of beaches and coastal waters beyond the beaches.
The Seogwipo Coast Guard maritime patrol unit, consisting of 18 members, has established an emergency contact network among rescue forces such as local governments, fire departments, private marine rescue teams, and leisure companies to prepare a cooperative system and share security elements in case of rescue situations.
A Seogwipo Coast Guard official said, “We will focus patrols on dangerous areas in coastal waters with large crowds for water play and water leisure activities, including beaches, analyze security demands, and do our best to create a safe Seogwipo sea.”
