President Yoon Returns Home After NATO Visit... Lee Jun-seok Greets at Airport
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife returned home on the 1st after completing a 3-night, 5-day trip to Madrid, Spain, where the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit was held.
On the 1st, around 11:30 a.m., President Yoon and the First Lady disembarked from Air Force One at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, and greeted Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, Kim Sung-han, director of the National Security Office, Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and others who came to welcome them.
President Yoon visited Madrid, Spain, on the 29th and 30th of last month to attend the NATO summit, completing a total of 16 diplomatic schedules over three days. This trip was President Yoon's first overseas visit since taking office and his debut on the multilateral diplomatic stage.
President Yoon also attended the NATO member and partner countries' leaders' meetings, the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit, the Asia-Pacific partner countries 'AP4' (Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand) meeting, and held meetings with the King of Spain and the NATO Secretary-General.
President Yoon stepped down from Air Force One, smiled, and shook hands with Leader Lee, who was lined up waiting. First Lady Kim Geon-hee also stood a step behind President Yoon and exchanged greetings.
Earlier, Leader Lee did not come to see President Yoon off when he departed for Madrid, Spain, on the 27th. At that time, Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong and Deputy Floor Leader Song attended. Currently, Floor Leader Kwon has left as the head of the special envoy delegation for the Philippine president's inauguration.
Amid severe internal strife within the People Power Party over allegations of evidence destruction related to Leader Lee's sexual bribery scandal, political attention was drawn as Leader Lee appeared at the airport this day despite not seeing President Yoon off at departure.
Immediately after returning, President Yoon is scheduled to move to the Yongsan Presidential Office building to receive reports on major domestic issues from his aides and review the direction of state affairs management.
