Yoon Meets Czech Prime Minister for 'Sales Diplomacy'... Requests Support for New Nuclear Power Plant
Strategic Partnership Recognized in Nuclear Power and Electric Vehicles... Request for Support to Host the '2030 Busan World Expo'
(Madrid, Spain = Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan) On the last day of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on the 30th (local time) and requested interest and support from Korean companies for the new Dukovany nuclear power plant.
On this day, the two leaders shared that South Korea and the Czech Republic are deepening their strategic partnership in various fields including nuclear power, electric vehicles, and clean energy. President Yoon asked Prime Minister Fiala to pay attention to Korean companies operating in the Czech Republic, which serves as a local production base in Europe, and Prime Minister Fiala expressed hope that mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries would expand to future industries such as electric vehicle batteries and hydrogen.
In particular, President Yoon requested Prime Minister Fiala’s interest and support so that Korean companies with global competitiveness can participate in the new Dukovany nuclear power plant, for which the Czech side started bidding in March this year. He also requested Czech support for the bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan. Prime Minister Fiala responded, "We are well aware of Korea’s technological capabilities and experience," and said, "We will appropriately consider the President’s explanation when making the final decision."
The North Korean nuclear issue was also discussed. President Yoon asked for the Czech side’s continued interest and cooperation to achieve North Korea’s complete denuclearization, and Prime Minister Fiala expressed support for the South Korean government’s policy toward North Korea.
