Hannam University Surpasses 1,000 International Students Amid COVID-19 Challenges
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The number of international students at Hannam University has surpassed 1,000.
On the 26th, the university announced that as of this month, the number of international students on campus has increased to 1,070, making it the second highest among local universities after Woosong University (which had 2,000 students according to last year's university information disclosure).
The university attributes this achievement to establishing the 'Cyber Korean Language Institute' by utilizing non-face-to-face class opportunities amid the COVID-19 crisis and conducting international student recruitment activities through various channels tailored to each country.
Nationwide, the number of international students has shown a continuous decline from 111,915 in 2019 to 101,083 in 2020, and 98,082 last year.
In contrast, Hannam University turned the COVID-19 adversity into an opportunity, increasing the number of international students by more than 160% from 668 last year to 1,070 this year (as of this month).
Hannam University’s Director of External Cooperation, Eun Woong, said, “Experts are suggesting that our country could become the first endemic nation of COVID-19. The university will respond to the increasing influx of international students coming to Korea by engaging in more proactive recruitment activities to establish the university’s status and advance as a globally prestigious higher education institution.”
