[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] On the 21st, the Ministry of Justice held an appointment ceremony for the 'Ministry of Justice Correctional Reform Committee,' a correctional administration review and advisory body, at the main conference room of the Government Gwacheon Complex.
The committee consists of a total of 16 members, including 13 external experts with extensive academic knowledge and experience in correctional policy and 3 internal members. The term of the members is one year, and the chairperson is Professor Lee Soo-jung of the Department of Criminal Psychology at Kyonggi University.
At the first meeting following the appointment ceremony, the members reviewed the current status of the Correction Headquarters' work and discussed future operation plans for the Correctional Reform Committee.
After the meeting, Professor Lee said, "The work stress of correctional officers is considerable, which is a major obstacle to the rehabilitation of inmates," and added, "We will seek ways to change the organization and system into one that can maintain order among inmates while enabling rehabilitation."

Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon said at the appointment ceremony, "Although corrections play an important role in society, it has been regrettable that it has been pushed to the back compared to other fields," and added, "I hope that through the operation of the Correctional Reform Committee, correctional officers can take greater pride in their work."
