Government Responds to Russian Report of Korean Death in Ukrainian Forces: "Unconfirmed"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The government announced on the 21st that it has not confirmed any matching information regarding the recent announcement by the Russian Ministry of Defense that 4 out of 13 Koreans who joined the Ukrainian army have died.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said to reporters on the same day, "No information matching the announcement by the Russian Ministry of Defense has been confirmed," and added, "We are working to verify the Russian side's announcement."
He added, "We are aware of the announcement by the Russian Ministry of Defense and are verifying the facts."
Since the Russian Ministry of Defense disclosed the deaths of Koreans who joined the Ukrainian army on the 17th (local time), our government has requested materials from Russia to verify the facts.
In April, Russia also provided intelligence to Korea that two Korean combat participants had died, but it is known that Russia has not yet responded with additional information such as the identities of the deceased in response to the Korean government's request for fact verification.
