Jeongeup-si Extends 50% Reduction on Agricultural Machinery Rental Fees Until December
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province announced on the 21st that it will extend the 50% discount benefit on agricultural machinery rental fees, which was scheduled to end at the end of this month, until the end of December.
The city has been temporarily implementing a 50% discount on agricultural machinery rental fees from April 2020 until the end of this month to alleviate labor shortages in rural areas and reduce farm management costs due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, as the COVID-19 situation continues and economic burdens on farmers increase due to rising fuel costs caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the city decided to extend the discount for an additional six months until the end of December.
Accordingly, any local farmer wishing to rent agricultural machinery can receive the rental fee discount benefit for all models (99 types, 1,466 units) available at the rental centers.
The city operates agricultural machinery rental centers in four regional zones, including the main office, according to the Agricultural Machinery Rental Center Operation Ordinance.
Since the implementation of the 50% rental fee discount on April 6, 2020, up to the present, a total of 31,429 farmers have rented agricultural machinery.
This represents about a 30% increase compared to before the discount, and the total amount of rental fee discounts reached over 400 million KRW, confirming that it has greatly helped alleviate labor shortages and reduce economic burdens for farms.
An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, “We hope this will help farmers who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19 and rising fuel costs caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” and added, “We plan to continue preparing various support measures to minimize damage to farms.”
