Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters Strengthens Safety Management of Special Flammable Materials
Safety Management at 152 Special Combustible Material Storage Sites by the End of July
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeollabuk-do Fire Headquarters (Chief Choi Min-cheol) announced on the 16th that it will strengthen fire safety management for storage and handling locations of special combustible materials where the combustion spread rate is rapid in the event of a fire.
Following a fire at a special combustible material storage site in Gunsan City that caused significant property damage due to rapid combustion, the Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters plans to enhance safety management at 152 special combustible material storage sites across the province by the end of July to prevent similar fires.
"Special combustible materials" refer to items such as rubber products, cotton products, coal, and charcoal that pose a risk of rapid flame spread in case of fire, as defined by the Enforcement Decree of the Fire Services Act.
According to the Fire Headquarters, locations storing or handling special combustible materials, which have high combustion heat and rapid fire spread making extinguishing difficult, must install signs indicating the product name, maximum quantity, and prohibition of fire handling.
Additionally, materials must be stacked separately by product name, with stacking height not exceeding 10 meters, and the floor area of the stacked portion not exceeding 50 square meters. The floor areas of stacked portions must be spaced at least 1 meter apart.
The Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters will focus on ▲ special fire inspections for vulnerable targets such as large quantities of special combustible materials ▲ intensive promotion of storage and handling standards ▲ customized safety education. It will also strengthen publicity of relevant laws to ensure compliance with special combustible material storage standards and guide and verify the installation of appropriate signs for the stored special combustible materials.
