Jeonbuk Jeongeup-si Protects 'Citizen Health' by Eradicating Summer Sanitation Pests

As summer approaches, an increase in ‘sanitation pests’ is expected around rivers and residential areas, prompting a swift response to ensure a comfortable living environment for citizens and to prevent mosquito-borne infectious diseases.

The intensive summer pest control will be conducted for about five months until October. To this end, the city has organized five pest control task forces and 15 autonomous pest control teams in eup and myeon areas. Disinfection will be carried out at least once a week by region.

To reduce air pollution caused by worsening fine dust, eco-friendly fogging disinfection harmless to humans will be used to exterminate sanitation pests in densely populated areas.

Eco-friendly fogging disinfection has the advantage of causing less air pollution and being harmless to humans by appropriately diluting water and insecticides.

However, compared to smoke disinfection, it has less visual effect, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings among residents about the actual pest control effectiveness, but it has a long residual effect, resulting in strong disinfection efficacy.

The pest control teams plan to focus disinfection activities on multi-use facilities and vulnerable areas where sanitation pests inhabit, such as parks and river surroundings, as well as densely populated areas.

A city official said, “We will do our best to prevent mosquito-borne infectious diseases such as Japanese encephalitis through intensive summer pest control,” and added, “Residents are asked to remove stagnant water in puddles and blocked drainage around their homes that can serve as mosquito breeding grounds and to properly dispose of household waste.”
