Korea-ASEAN Startup Partnership Vision Roadmap Completed... "Hope for Continued Cooperation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] South Korea and the 10 ASEAN countries discussed cooperation measures for a startup partnership.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups held the '5th Korea-ASEAN Startup Policy Dialogue' via video conference on the 16th with the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ACCMSME). ACCMSME is a consultative body composed of high-ranking officials from ministries of the 10 ASEAN countries to discuss policies on SMEs and startups.
During the policy dialogue, they discussed cooperation on the Korea-ASEAN startup partnership. South Korea and the 10 ASEAN countries established a startup partnership at the 2019 Korea-ASEAN Special Summit and have been conducting cooperative projects annually.
Through the biannual policy dialogues, they discuss the implementation status of partnership-based cooperative projects and the discovery of new projects.
Both sides finalized the roadmap containing the Korea-ASEAN startup cooperation vision and agreed to approve and begin implementation within the first half of the year.
The Korea-ASEAN startup roadmap consists of three main strategies?△Education and Exchange △Policy and Regulatory Improvement △Investment and Co-growth?and 17 execution plans. Among these, six short-term execution plans will be intensively implemented during the 2024 partnership period through nine key promotion plans.

Byun Tae-seop, Director of SME Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, who attended the policy dialogue, stated, "The roadmap completed through the joint efforts of the 11 Korea-ASEAN countries has established the vision for Korea-ASEAN startup cooperation," adding, "We hope that cooperation between Korea and ASEAN will continue to foster innovative startups with competitiveness."
