Police Investigate on Child Abuse Charges
Restraining Orders and Smartwatch Issuance Implemented
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A university student in his 20s who repeatedly assaulted a minor tutoring student has been arrested by the police.
On the 15th, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked university student A on charges of child abuse and are currently investigating.
According to the police, A is suspected of indiscriminately assaulting middle school student B, who was receiving private tutoring from him, at a study cafe in Yeongdeungpo-gu on the 13th of last month.
At the time of the incident, A reportedly punched B multiple times in the solar plexus and assaulted him dozens of times over about 50 minutes inside the cafe and on the stairs within the building.
A is said to have become enraged and assaulted B after B expressed a desire to quit the tutoring, which meant A would no longer receive the tuition fees.
During the police investigation, it was found that A had habitually assaulted B before. To ensure B's safety, the police issued a restraining order against A and provided B with a smartwatch.
