The K-BioHealth Regional Center is part of the 'K-BioHealth Regional Center Support Project' led by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute. It will serve as a dedicated organization to establish an innovative network within the bio cluster and connect industrial clusters with hospitals to support the commercialization of biohealth technologies.
Bundang Seoul National University Hospital was selected as the lead institution in December last year and will carry out the project with a total of 2.1 billion KRW over three years from the Korea Health Industry Development Institute and about 200 million KRW from Seongnam City. The center plans to support the entire commercialization process for startup companies linked to the regional bio cluster, including facilities, equipment, research resources, idea discovery, commercialization consulting, and clinical advice.
To this end, starting from April this year, the hospital established the 'K-BioHealth Innovation Center' on the 6th floor of the Bundang Seoul National University Hospital Healthcare Innovation Park and publicly recruited resident companies, ultimately selecting nine companies. These companies will receive support for office space, equipment, clinical trials, commercialization consulting, and various other programs.
Hospital Director Baek Nam-jong said, “Many countries around the world are actively investing to seize the rapidly changing biohealth industry, and our country is also striving to secure global competitiveness through fostering new industries.” He added, “Through the K-BioHealth Regional Center, we will spare no effort to create a better business environment and contribute greatly to nurturing the leaders of the biohealth industry.”
