The event was planned by Busan City, the International Newspaper, and Walkable Busan to wish for the hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo and to form a broad civic consensus. It was also designed to promote Busan as a great city for walking.
Unlike typical walking contests, participants can join individually without time restrictions. If they complete the walking course by July 22 and upload a certification photo on their personal Instagram, blog, Facebook, etc., 200 people will be selected by lottery to receive prizes.
The walking course is approximately 4 km and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The course starts at the Busan Station Galmaetgil Tour Lounge, then proceeds to the pedestrian deck in front of the 2nd-floor Pascucci Cafe → Busan Port Sky Plaza → Camping Site → 5th Pedestrian Bridge → Wildflower Garden → Lawn Plaza → 4th Pedestrian Bridge → and returns to Busan Station.
Certification photos can include ▲walking course photos taken with the Expo promotional leaflet distributed at the starting point, ‘Busan Station Galmaetgil Tour Lounge,’ ▲scenery photos of Busan Harbor Bridge, plaza, passenger terminal, etc., taken with the participant’s face, ▲photos of the newly created Expo photo zone within Bukhang.
Busan City stated, “The walking course includes scenic waterways connected to the sea and lawn plazas. Walking for about 1 hour and 30 minutes allows you to experience the wide-open Busan Harbor Bridge, the anticipated Opera House after completion, and the Wildflower Garden that changes with the seasons, showcasing the diverse charms unique to Bukhang Port.”
To participate, apply on the Walkable Busan website, confirm the participation number via text message, complete the walking course during the event period, and upload the certification photo on personal social networking services (SNS).
After uploading, fill out the certification post link address, participation number, and prize delivery address through the Google survey form link.
Jo Yoo-jang, Director of the Tourism MICE Industry Bureau of Busan City, said, “Bukhang is the site for the 2030 Busan World Expo and will be the location for the on-site inspection by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) inspection team in the future. It is a place that requires much interest and support from citizens.” He added, “We ask everyone to participate in the walking contest, walk the Bukhang Galmaetgil course firsthand, and show their passion for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo.”
